Minister Adam Szłapka Appointed Government Spokesman
20.06.2025
Minister Adam Szłapka will become the government spokesman. This decision was announced today by Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Due to his current responsibilities, Minister Szłapka will formally assume the role after the conclusion of Poland's presidency of the EU Council, but he already declares 24/7 availability.
"We are ready to work and we are determined," said Adam Szłapka, pledging to effectively reach citizens with information on the government's actions, to combat disinformation, to strengthen cooperation with ministries, and to seek out new communication formats.
Minister Adam Szłapka Named Government Spokesman
As previously announced, Prime Minister Donald Tusk today introduced the new government spokesman: Minister for EU Affairs Adam Szłapka.
"I said very clearly—since everyone keeps saying ‘you need a good spokesperson who will debunk lies from morning till night and communicate what the government is doing’—I took those words to heart. (...) The decision is made,"
said the Prime Minister during a press conference in the garden of the Prime Minister’s Office.
Although he will officially take on the role after the EU presidency ends, Adam Szłapka is already assuming responsibility for communication, media relations, and effectively reaching citizens with accurate information.
"The task ahead is enormous. We’re prepared, ready to work, and highly motivated. Judging by the emotions, there is clearly a strong need for good communication,"
said Minister Szłapka, thanking the Prime Minister for his trust.
Szłapka will formally assume the position of government spokesperson on July 1, after the conclusion of Poland’s EU Council presidency. Until then, he remains focused on overseeing and summarizing the presidency’s outcomes.
"In the coming days, he and I will report—in Europe and above all in Poland—on the outcomes of Poland’s presidency, what it revealed, what is currently not working in the EU, and how the European Union should evolve,"
stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Next week, both Tusk and Szłapka will attend the NATO summit in The Hague and the European Council meeting in Brussels.
Goal: Reaching Citizens with Clear Information
The appointment marks a new chapter in the government's communication strategy. While Minister Szłapka will be accessible to journalists around the clock, his main objective will be informing citizens accurately and effectively about the government’s accomplishments.
"We can talk about the National Recovery Plan, about the ‘grandmother benefit,’ about the rapidly improving rail system... There are many successes across every ministry. Our job is to make sure citizens don’t have to search for this information, but that we reach them every day with what we’re doing—because we’re really doing a lot,"
said Szłapka.
The strategy will involve new directions in social media, along with exploring innovative forms of communication. Another key responsibility for the government spokesperson will be combating disinformation in the media landscape.
"Some of it is intentional, some of it is just noise. Our job—through a communication strategy built from the ground up—will be to fight that disinformation. And we’ll fight it 24 hours a day,"
declared the incoming spokesperson.
Improving the government's communication strategy will also require building a capable communications team and engaging all ministries in coordinated public information efforts—plans that Szłapka confirmed during today’s press conference.
